ISLET BIOLOGY LAB

Uncovering the Mechanisms of Diabetes

We are dedicated to understanding the principles that will help us prevent and treat diabetes.

Our Research

Our laboratory focuses on understanding pancreatic islet function and survival in health and diabetes. This knowledge might help us protect beta cells and, therefore, to either prevent or slow diabetes progression in susceptible individuals.

MOLECULAR RESEARCH

To comprehend the molecular differences between alpha and beta cells that allow the former to survive during diabetes development.

COMPOUND TESTING

To identify and test compounds with the ability to promote human pancreatic beta cell survival. These drugs would be a promising adjuvant therapy in the treatment of type I diabetes.
